How Licensing Works in Michigan
Michigan regulates private security business activity under 1968 PA 330 (commonly referred to as the Private Security Business and Security Alarm Act). Licensing applies to private security guard agencies and related business entities regulated under that Act.
Michigan separately regulates private investigation through the Professional Investigator Licensure Act, 1965 PA 285. This statutory framework covers licensure for professional investigators and related agency structures.
Licensing is administered by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) for these regulated activities.

Operational Notes for Multi-State Firms
Michigan separates private security business regulation from professional investigator licensure under different Acts. Multi-entity operators should distinguish between investigation services and security services when mapping licensing requirements.
