How Licensing Works in Oklahoma
Oklahoma maintains a centralized, statewide licensing regime for private security and private investigation services under the Oklahoma Security Guard and Private Investigator Act, 59 O.S. § 1750.1 et seq.
Licensing is administered by the Oklahoma Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET).
The statute provides for licensure of security guard companies and private investigation companies. Individual security guards and private investigators must also be licensed or registered as defined by statute. Armed security personnel are subject to additional firearms training and authorization requirements administered through CLEET.
Licensure or registration is required prior to engaging in regulated services. Both business entities and individual licensees are regulated at the state level.
Firearms licensing for general concealed carry is governed under separate provisions of Oklahoma law and is not itself a private security or private investigation license.
Regulation of private security and private investigation services is centralized at the state level.
